Street Poems Go Live!

Poetry lovers are in for a treat in Strokestown next month as the International Poetry Festival gets under way – but visitors can get in the mood right now with street poems already in place around the town.

Some of the winning poems in the 20/20 Poetry Competition, which was arranged to mark the festival’s 20th anniversary this year, are on show at points around Strokestown. They will be there for Poetry Day Ireland on April 26th, and will remain in place for the main festival, from May 3rd to 7th (May Bank holiday weekend).

Pictured are two poems displayed at the main Bawn Street entrance to Strokestown Park House, host to many of the festival’s events, which include poetry readings from more than 70 different people, plus book launches, film screenings, street entertainment and music. Most of the events are free of charge, and everyone is welcome. Check out our programme here.
