Poetry lovers gathered on the side of the mountain on Easter Monday to mark the launch of Strokestown’s 20th International Poetry Festival. They met at Sliabh Bán Wind Farm for a poetry-themed Easter Egg Hunt over a 2.5km route below the wind turbines.
Chocolate eggs and tickets to some of the Poetry Festival events were presented to participants who braved the cold wintry conditions to take part, following a trail of clues which included songs by Bob Dylan and Ed Sheeran, and poems by Billy Collins and Seamus Heaney.
Sliabh Bán Wind Farm, a joint venture project between Coillte and Bord na Móna, is located approximately five kilometres south east of Strokestown, in Doughill Forest on Sliabh Bán mountain.
Strokestown Poetry Festival gets under way on Thursday, May 3rd, but poetry-related events are held around Strokestown throughout the year, and on Poetry Day Ireland on April 26th, Strokestown will host a street poetry get together in the town with a theme of ‘Surprises’.
