As part of the ‘Irish Women in Literature’: Inspiring Authors in a magnificent Historic House, we presented Roscommon Women Poets.
In conjunction with Strokestown Park House and The Irish Heritage Trust, we invited eight women to read their poems at the conference. The readers included two of the Secondary Schools’ shortlisted poets, and four from the Roscommon Poets prize. Several poets from The Hermit Collective also read. Jessamine O’Connor concluded the conference, reading a selection of her work.
Culture Night 22nd September 2017. Strokestown Poetry organised a Schools’ Poetry Reading in Strokestown Library. In conjunction with Roscommon County Library and Roscommon CoCo.
Several young poets were invited to Strokestown Library to read their shortlisted poems from the Festival earlier this year, to an audience which included local fifth and sixth class students. The event was organised by Strokestown Poetry Festival in conjunction with the library to mark Culture Night. Next year’s schools’ poetry competition will be launched in January, alongside the Roscommon Poets’ Prize. Meanwhile, the competitions for Strokestown International Poetry Prize, The Percy French Prize for Comic Verse, and the Irish Language poetry competition Duais de hÍde, remain open for entries until December 1st.
