James runs two workshops at the Strokestown Poetry Festival annually. He is a UK born poet now living in Co.
Cork. He has published four collections of poetry with Anvil Press, and
has won a number of awards including the 2009 Michael Hartnett Award and
the British national poetry competition in 1995. He is the poetry editor
of Southword, one of Ireland's leading literary periodicals, and
the Temenos Academy Review, founded by Kathleen Raine. He has led residential poetry workshops at the Arvon Foundation, the UK's foremost creative writing organization, and has been a Visiting Writer at the Universities of Lancaster and the West of England on their MA courses in creative writing. He has also led workshops at the Strokestown and Baffle poetry festivals, and at Bantry, Clonakilty, Skibbereen and Dunmanway. In addition, he has held poetry residencies at Exeter Cathedral in the UK, as part of the 2001 national Year of the Artist programme, and at the Munster Literature Centre in Cork city, where he currently facilitates the weekly workshops.
